ABOUT LEN MILLIGAN

Attorney Milligan

Len Milligan is an award-winning criminal defense lawyer with nearly two decades of experience in trial courts. His litigation, teaching, and research centers on litigating complex criminal cases with high stakes. His collegial approach, thorough work product, and deep understanding of the personal and legal issues in criminal defense have led to his reputation as a smart, fair, and zealous advocate for those individuals facing the gravest of allegations.

Len primarily practices in Massachusetts and Vermont. His current practice focuses on complex litigation with high stakes. Len has handled more than 50 jury trials, including murder, rape, firearm crimes, RICO crimes, assaults, and serious drug cases. He has also successfully handled white collar criminal matters in healthcare fraud, securities fraud, embezzlement, money laundering, among others.

On occasion, based on his trial experience and skills, Len has been retained as trial counsel in civil litigation and has been lead counsel in federal civil rights trials, contract and fiduciary duty disputes, and matters often referred to as ‘bet-the-business’ high stakes trial matters.

Len is also a very experienced teacher of the law. He was invited to join the faculty of both his undergraduate and law school. He is currently on the faculty at New England Law-Boston where he teaches an advanced Evidence and Advocacy. Len is also on the faculty at the University of Vermont, where he teaches a course about the legal system and maintains a clinic for free legal services to University Students.

Len is also a proud invited faculty member at Harvard Law School’s Trial Advocacy Workshop, where he has taught for 14 years. At Harvard TAW, Len and other respected lawyers from around the country teach the very popular course focusing of trial strategy and mechanics.

From 2013-2015, Len taught a course at Northeastern School of Law called Criminal Advocacy, which included a weekly lecture on criminal law and procedure and ran a clinic where students were authorized under Massachusetts law to represent defendants in the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Courts. Len is very proud to call many of his former students colleagues.

Len has also been a trusted teacher to fellow attorneys, having taught at Zealous Advocacy for young defense lawyers. Because of his collegial approach and respected skills, Len has also been asked to teach trial skills to young prosecutors as well.
