Trial practice is both art and science and is best described as a craft. Len spent most his career building a firm around the idea that complex litigation, both criminal and civil, is a very personal profession. He and his team built Milligan Coughlin and then Milligan Rona Duran & King to help individuals and businesses that needed the most serious of help.

In 2025, The Law Office of Leonard E. Milligan III opened with the express purpose of maintaining a small practice that permits Len and his team to focus deeply on the facts and law before them. The firm’s current caseload includes a cold-case murder, a death-penalty eligible federal RICO murder, an alleged serial killer, and other complicated murder cases. Although the firm is often called upon to handle complex matters, every case they accept is important and gets the attention that only a small, focused firm can deliver. To maintain this small practice, the firm is highly selective in the cases it accepts. Although they are always interested to learn about someone and their legal needs, it is not uncommon for Len to help someone find a more suitable attorney or other resource.
